I'm Back!

Back from holidays, and ready to catch up on 20 days of blog music and news I've missed out on... but tonight of course, is a night to celebrate being back... Party!!!

Don't expect too much from me atm, cause you probably know more then I do. In the brief amount of time I've been home I've managed to find two pieces of news, however old they are, that both shocked me.

1. Chemicals & Muscles?

Apparently Australian Muscles is supporting the Chemical Brothers on this leg of their tour. A very interesting pick, which I'm all for, but I can just see what many other peoples' expressions would be.. if they were too high to care. More info here.

2. Daft Punk at the Grammy's

Now I may have just been completely out of the loop here, but I had no idea about this, and still have no Idea if it's true, but it does come straight from the whores mouth. Check out the vid there.

What you can expect from me, in a soonish time frame, is something I haven't done before, involving promoting some tracks I picked up whilst holydaying in the good old land of the queen, qld.

Oh, and thanks and wow for the hits and comments while I was away!

Daft Punk Sydney!

I finally found some sort of way to describe just how awesome the Daft Punk experience is, it goes "I found found $15 on the ground, and that was probably the worst part of the day". Simple, yet effective. If finding money is the worst thing to happen, you can only begin to image how much better it got.

Here's some vids to tide you over as I put some other thoughts / uploads together, Flickr photos etc. I was in the D barrier, which for those who don't know is a barrier shaped like a 'D' that helps the people at the very front, like my old mate (been mates for one day now) Joe who flew from Los Angeles to see Daft Punk in Sydney!, only get squashed by about 4 thousand people instead of 24000. I was about 5 people back and to right hand side at this gig, so no dead centre at this gig, but a hell of a lot closer.

Anyways heres some vids...

Daft Punk (Part 1 of 2)

Daft Punk (Part 2 of 2)

I had to split it because it was too long for youtube as a single vid. 13 mins in total.

Here's DJ Falcon from the after party at the Metro, which was awesome btw.

Enjoy.

Grafton Horror!

Daft Punk will have left the building this time tomorrow, well actually, hopefully they won't have, hopefully they'll be at the after party with me at the metro. But alas, if they are not I will definitely be coming home content after seeing them strut their stuff all over the Sydney Showground. Stay tunned...

I caught Grafton Primary here in the gong at our local gay and lesbian friendly (not only!, although they do have a rainbow flag behind the bar). They went off pretty well, the crowd was pumping, not sure if this was due to their music or the camera crew they had walking round the joint. The original duo of Josh and Ben Garden from Sydney, added Robbie the drummer to help reproduce their sounds on the stage. Which they did pretty well, although I must say, I was disappointed they didn't crack out the keyboard axe.

Check out their track relativity and the Tommy Trash remix:

Grafton Primary - Relativity (zshare) (ysi)
Grafton Primary - Relativity (Tommy Trash Remix) (zshare) (ysi)

Also check out their interview with JJJ where they they discuss their interesting take on how each generation of musicians takes in the lasts and outputs it in a different way, and how each generation should try to appreciate the similarities and embrace the music.

I grabbed a copy of their EP after the show, which they were selling out of the boot of their car for $5 (which is pretty cheap), if you wanna pick it up check at itunes or jb-hi-fi.

The DJs on after Grafton were pretty regular, and by regular I mean I went downstairs so I didn't have to listen to them, which is pretty unfortunate considering the DJs were Miami Horror and they were (practically) the 'headliners' of the night. Before heading downstairs tho, they played one of the shittest mixes of Daft Punk's 'One More Time' I've ever heard, which still managed to get people dancing, tho the original, or probably any other mix in the world would have done so more. So that was kind of disappointing, but I'm not closing the book on them yet, as most of their own remixes are pretty damn fine. I'll post some later, at a time when I'm not going to a festival in 8 hours and dancing for 14 after that, now tho, it is time for sleep.

Do You Feel Daft, Punk?
Pics / Vids / And...
Semi-Unrelated Mixes

Sorry about the lack of coherent-cy in this post, but thats how it is when your running on no sleep and a high from a concert that was days ago... so here are some random topics / paragraphs / pictures and videos...

OK

So I just decided, in an attempt to make some coherent-ness out of this post, to create a sort of content list so you know what to
expect from the post. Hope it helps...

Text - Intro to Daft Punk
Pre-Hype - Pre show vids/movies
Pics - Slide Show (Photos from the day before, to on the way home)
Vid - Presets New Untitled Track
Vid - SebastiAn & Kavinsky with Busy P up to mischief
Vid - Daft Punk Robot Rock
Post-Hype - Arf-tar-part-ey
Text - DGIU's Final Thought (for now...)
Mixtape - Bang Gang DJs (Grey Disc)
Mixtape - Busy P (Let's Get OZ)
Mixtape - Boys Noize (21 Minutes To Know)

So read the other day that the Daft Punk got their name from a NME review that ripped into their old band. The review was from their endeavor as Darlin' which along with Thomas Bangalter & Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo the 'Rock / Surf / Soul' group also featured Laurent 'Branco' Brancowitz (now) of Phoenix fame (com | myspace). The review called Darlin' Daft Punk'. And hence the bohemoeuth began...Man, I want to thank that reviewer!

Check out Daft Punk is screening at my house! for Electroma & Interstella 5555 & lotsa music vids. HERE.

The Presets

Along with 'My People' The Presets also debut another new track. If you ask me, they played this track to test everyone's reaction, as it's so similar to My People! At the start Julian shouts something to the tune of 'When I was young... I collected (?) my hero'. 'My hero' sounds exactly like 'My People'.

I honestly think they were seeing if they would be able to get away with releasing this track too. And I think they could...

Still too early too tell which is better, having only heard it properly once. It sounded so familiar tho, and I couldn't tell if it was because of my people or because I'd heard it before.. which apparently would have been impossible, because as you can hear in the video, "This one's never been heard before, by anyone, except by us two... so we hope you like it..."

Check it out for yourself:

SebastiAn & Kavinsky, with Busy P

Daft Punk

Maybe more vids later...

I don't know if it was because it was Melbourne or because it was Daft Punk (or if it was just for me), but the crowd was great. And I mean great. Sure, some people trying to get closer, but after they realised you weren't letting them through, did they stay and kick you in the ankle? Or give you elbows in the ribs? Nope. They just moved on. Everyone was there for the great time so they didn't was any of it being bastards. Another thing I noticed was the mass of random hugs, hi fives and they like going on on the walk out. Daft Punk just left everyone in the best mood. And so would this...

Daft Punk is having an afterparty! HERE.

Only heard this last night that there were 3 Overdoses At Daft Punk (ninemsn news (look at the title. A 'rave'?) | yahoo news) | the age news), 30 people treated all up, which in my opinion seems pretty low, seeing as there were 13,000 attendees, many of which had been anticipating the even for literally years. Shit thing is, the event co-ords (emails: modular & michael coppel) said NO to an offer of an onsite ambulance. WTF!

Besides the whole drug-dose thing, and I don't know if it was because it was Melbourne or because it was Daft Punk (or if it was just me), but O thought the crowd was great. And I mean great. Sure, some people wore fluro (not many tho), some people tried to get closer, but after they realised you weren't letting them through, did they stay and kick you in the ankle? Or give you elbows in the ribs? Nope. They just moved on.

Daft Punk-ness over and out. For now. For 6 days!

Float my boat.

Here's some stuff that got me going whilst I was trawling the sphere after a week off, some of them have been around for a while, some not, all good...

Romanoff Spitzer: Keepin' It In The Family

It may sound like some fucked up cocktail, and it probably would be if they ever collaborated, but for Romanoff and Spitzer are two (separate) duos I've really been digging lately.

In the spirit of alphabeticalness, firstup is Romanoff

Romanoff

So is was going to say I couldn't remember how I found out about these guys , and how it could have been from any of these on-top-of-it sources from my blogroll... versus / radio sidekick / attorney st / phase02 / get weird turn pro ...But then I remember it was them that found me!

They befriended me on myspace, and after seeing their background picture...

I knew I had to check them out, how could I not?! So I did and they were cool...

Romanoff consists of two cousins (keepin it in the family y'all!) straight outta Brooklyn, NY. Their live shit is off the hook (you can see that from their pics) and besides NY they have already spread their balls of destruction all over Europe, with more coming up soon.

What do you want me to do about it I hear you ask? First of all you've got to check out the one and only Romanoff's myspace, it'll have you fist-pumping your balls into an epileptic fit. It's seriously one of the best myspace pages I've seen, none of that clutter up the page shit, it's so bare that all you can find is their music! How crap is that! And then once you've said 'fuck it, i supposed i'll download their shit if i have too', you find out they've gone and given it to you for free at 320kbps, like the highest quality possibly, just another punch in the face!

Seriously though, after some tough investigative journalism, I did find one piece of information on their myspace, and that is that they call their music 'Thrash / Tropical'. I'd say it was more Punk-Rock, Thrashed up the arse of an Electronic Elephant from the Tropical regions of Russia. But thats just me. Check it out for yourself after the drop.

Romanoff - Stupider Bananas (at least I think thats what it's called, filename says one thing, tag says the other, website says one thing, myspace track player says another) (zshare) (ysi)

And now for...

Spitzer

Once again, this duo is keepin' it in the family, comprising of French brothers Damien & Matthieu and they also found me, sending me their stuff to enlighten my ears. The info they gave me said, and I agree, that they produce Electronic music using computer machines. They want to make you dance and they don't listen to Christian Rock.

What more could you ask for?

Several things actually:
Ask if they can remix your tracks
Ask if they can play your club
Ask them for more tracks / when their 'Roller Coaster EP' is coming out

How?

Find out on their myspace

Now for the audio goodnesss that is Yatch Club. If this duo put any more brotherly love into their tracks I'd be calling the police! It's also their longest track so you can enjoy the love for longer.

Spitzer - Yatch Club (zshare) (ysi)

On another note:

BOOYAAA!

is now coming at you inside the hype machine (if I can be bothered to YouSendIt or direct host the tracks I blog) I'm also pretty proud that my first track up there was The Presets - My People, check it out yo.

That's me out out for a while, as I'm off to Melbourne for the start of what shall be known as Daft Punk Christmas!

(Click for hugeness)

The counts at 3 sleeps for their very first show in Aus on Dec 13th at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne (tickets still available, last time i looked, check out for yourself here), then 9 sleeps after that for their very last show, not just in Australia but of their whole freaking world tour! on Dec 22nd at Sydney Olympic. Should be freaking awesome. If I don't hit you up with more bangers before Daft Punk Christmas Show #1, then when I do, I'll also have some fresh Daft Punk fotos/footage!!

(btw awseome does not even begin to explain how this show will make me feel, Daft Punk alone would be better than awesome , but this is a fucking festival!)

Can't wait eather? Get a fix...

Daft Punk - Technologic (Peaches No Logic Remix) (zshare) (ysi)
Over & Out.

Sweet Child From My Mama's Ice Babies

Any idea what this post is going to be about?

You guessed it! Well, Actually I'm assuming you didn't so I'll tell you. It's about:

1. Stacy Ann Ferguson
2. William James Adams, Jr.
3. Robert Matthew van Winkle

Why would I be posting about these people and who are they? Read on...

The first two I am posting about because I saw them live the other day, and before you judge me, I got free tix (worth $150) and took the tix 'cause my girlfriend wanted to go. Anyways on to who they are.

1. Stacy Ann Ferguson

AKA
Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas

FACTS You might not know/care about, about Fergie

"I started doing ecstasy. Then I got addicted to crystal methamphetamine. My weight dropped to 90 pounds. I lied to my friends and said I was bulimic. Finally I started going crazy. In that moment I talked to God and He said: 'I've given you all these gifts, so what are you doing?' I decided to get clean. I told everybody what was wrong."

"I had a few drinks before the show, but I didn't think to go to the restroom before we went onstage. We were jumping around -- it was all very rock-n-roll -- and my bladder just started... you know. Somebody brought out these champagne bottles because it was the New Year, and I basically opened one up and squirted it all over myself, so nobody would notice. It was a very memorable Pea experience."

// Stay'n Classy

CONTENT,
The reason I started talking about Fergie... Because I took a video of her singing... Guns & Roses... Sweet Child Of Mine... OMG:

2. William James Adams, Jr.

AKA
Will.I.Am also from the Black Eyed Peas

FACTS You might not know/care about, about Will.I.Am

He went to the same school as Grey from the Brady Bunch (about 20 years apart), that school must just have, like, a, leprechauns pot of gold talent.

CONTENT
Will.I.Am's 'I Got It From My Mama (minus Daft Punk)' (I can't wait for someone to make a I got it from YOUR mama remix)

I only have these two vids uploaded at the moment, but if I up any more they will be here

3. Robert Matthew van Winkle

AKA

Vanilla Ice of 'Ice Ice Baby' 'fame'

FACTS You might not know/care about, about Vanilla Ice
Vanilla Ice (or the artist formerly known as MC Vanilla ) ploughed Madonna!
Attempted suicide (unrelated, or so we are led to believe)
Where I may have stolen the idea of facts aka 'trivia' from. Big ups to nek and his crew
I can't spell Vanilla. Thank God for spell check.

CONTENT
, Yes the rumours are true Vanilla Ice is coming to Australia over New Years and WILL. BE. IN. THE. GONG. FOR. N.Y.E! Awesome. See you there Wollongong!

Hype much?

Ok, so someone got a bit overzealous. Will.I.Am of Black Eyed Peas fame (or vice versa, depending on how cool you are) recently recorded a track that heavily 'sample' Daft Punk, much like Kayne, but with one main difference. Will forgot to forgot to check with the folks from Never Ever Land first. But that's not all. Not only did he record the track he also made the video. I reckon Daft Punk just said no to stop an even bigger tsunami of requests for more sample clearance, since Kanye's hit. Check 'em out below:

The never-to-be-released-Daft-Punk-sample version:
Will.I.Am - I Got It From My Mama (ft Daft Punk Sample)

The released-un-Daft-Punk-sample-less-good version:
