Was just checking out what was up and coming in the little town of Wollongong and it seems to be going off at the moment.
In the next month all these acts will be in town:
2008.02.28
Fresh on their Cat & The Eye Tour (which starts tommorrow (21st) in Melbourne), Van She, accompanied by Ghostwood (formerly called something else, completely unrelated to wood)
are playing at the Wollongong Unibar on the day before the day that only occurs every once in a while. Should be good. Tickets.
2008.02.24
There's a weird Bicardi 'win your tickets' event, which funnily enough isn't the reason it's weird, but it's because it's on at midday. If that turned you off, this might turn you back on, the line-up in my re-arranged order is: Pnau, Bumblebeez, Bang Gang DJs, then Scribe and Faker
2008.03.06

UOWs legendary annual party is back in 2008 with a stellar line-up of Australian musical acts including: Gyroscope, The Cops, Grafton Primary, The Bustin’ Crew DJs, Ras Gong Guerrillas, & Reason Strikes. Tickets / info.
OR... on the same night is also:
THIS
Datarock supported by Mission Control
From moshtix:
"Norwegian disco popsters Datarock, a.k.a. Fredrik Saroea and Ketil Mosnes... with their questionable leisurewear and propensity for writing songs about robot sex and the possibility of women having man parts, you could consider them as the new rave equivalent to Goldie Lookin Chain. Musically, though, they’re completely different, favouring an impossibly nagging car crash of the most basic electro-pop and addictive Parliament-style funk, all done with a Talking Heads sense of style that’s both noxious and compulsive... Catchy lyrics, taken from 80s pop-culture films has Datarock fast turning into pop music’s most aggressive sect since The Polyphonic Spree."
A collection of artists set to perform under the banner of 'Union of Soul' at the Wollongong Botanic Gardens (subject to venue approval, although it pretty much has to happen now doesn't it?, now that they've told everyone, how pissed of would poeple get at those who deny permission). Althought I'd be going for Gotye and staying for... Gotye, the other acts (John Butler Trio, Clare Bowditch & The Feeding Set and Lior) would be alright if your in the right mood. Tickets.
